Two price regimes
In the three examples below, the statutory rate covers work for courts and public authorities, and in the Czech Republic also private orders without an agreed price. A statutory rate is therefore a reference point, not a market price.
Czech Republic
The decree rate applies where a public authority determines the fee or the parties have not agreed on a price (Act No. 354/2019 Coll., § 29(2)); it is due per started standard page of 1,800 characters (Decree No. 507/2020 Coll., § 3).
Czech: Normostrana: kolik znaků, kolik slov a jak ji spočítat ve Wordu
Germany
Where courts and certain authorities engage the translator, § 11 JVEG pays €1.95 per started 55 keystrokes for editable text and €2.15 otherwise, with a minimum fee of €20. Private orders are priced freely.
German: Was kostet eine beglaubigte Übersetzung?
France
For criminal legal costs, art. A43-7 of the Code de procédure pénale sets the written translation rate per 250-word page: €25, or €38.50 for interpreters-translators who have exercised their right of option. It does not apply to private orders.
French: La page de traduction : 250 mots (art. R122 CPP)
Italy
Court-appointed translators are paid per two-hour “vacazione”: €14.68 for the first and €8.15 for each further one (D.M. 30 May 2002). Private quotes use a contractual page.
Italian: Cartella di traduzione: quanti caratteri, quante parole, quanto costa
Poland
For orders from courts, prosecutors, police and public administration the regulation sets e.g. 44.07 zł per page into Polish from English, German, French and Russian (§ 2(1)); private orders are priced by agreement (art. 16(1) of the act).
Polish: Ile kosztuje tłumaczenie poświadczone
Slovakia
Unless a price is agreed, the tariff applies to private clients too: €19.92 per started page between Slovak and other European languages, +€1.66 if one language does not use Latin script (Decree No. 491/2004 Coll., § 10).
Slovak: Koľko stojí úradný preklad na Slovensku
What drives the price
- The length of the translation in the agreed unit.
- The language pair.
- Urgency and difficulty, where the rules provide surcharges.
- Extra copies, apostille or legalisation, delivery.
What Lingverra costs
Lingverra is a tool for the translator, not a certified translation. Lingverra costs €0.50 to €0.60 per standard page of 1,650 characters, depending on the package — a different unit from any statutory page.
